Overview & Reviews
For 2004, the Grand Cherokee gets a factory-installed DVD navigation system integrated into the radio. Columbia, Freedom and Special Edition trims are also new for 2004. All of these models incorporate subtle cosmetic touches and equipment upgrades. Additionally, each Columbia Edition Jeep comes with a complimentary Columbia parka.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability, trucklike on-road handling.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland-Pricey Lemon! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By 49caddyman - August 28 - 3:55 amI bought an 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland in 2005 w.a mere 22,000 miles on the odometer. Being loaded, this SUV cost $43,000+. I immediately learnt that both axle seals, & both rear shocks, were leaking. At 36,200 miles (200 miles out of the "warranty"), all "Hell" broke loose. The starter failed, the factory CD player died, power windows & door locks ceased to function (Ive had this problem repaired 3+ times already), no Jeep dealership would help out even though this Jeep was only 200 miles out of "warranty", thepass. side rocker panel & frnt fender are rotting out, transmission started slipping at 117,000 miles. A grossly overpriced LEMON, & my LAST Jeep. Honda Pilot here I come!

The Gas Sucker - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By avg1512 - December 3 - 2:00 amThe Jeep Overland is a beautiful vehicle. However, the motor runs very rough, and the EPA mileage rating and reality are nowhere near each other. I just think the engine in this vehicle is still in the stone age.

Less than 50 miles and I have a Problem - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By walk213 - August 10 - 2:00 amI just leased 2 GC SE yesterday (one for my wife and one for me). Last night my GC SE had an engine light go on and the right directional started flashing right even though I was not turning right? The engine light indicated that there could be a manifold problem with the car. I brought it over to the dealer (nice guys) and they said they would make immediate repairs. I have had 2 Saabs and NEVER had an issue (never mind one after 50 miles of driving). Hopefully I did not pull a lemon. The car rides and looks great--we will see about the reliabity.

mediocre experience - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By astacker - May 16 - 2:00 amThe Jeep is a fine SUV until things start to go wrong. I am tired of hearing "we see this all the time in these Jeeps" from my mechanic when I have a little problem. It performs excellent off road, but compared to other SUVs it is noisy and has mediocre handling. Chrysler designs these vehicles so that when little things go wrong with them - big things have to be replaced.

Be careful in hot areas... - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By abloke - May 11 - 10:00 amGreat vehicle. Not a cross-over SUV. Drives well, comfortable seating, a lot of power. We have had it for 4 months now and are considering trading it in because of an inadequate air conditioning system. We live in the south and when the outside temp rises above 85 the vehicle doesnt cool down much past 80. It is ok in the front when the vents are pointed directly on you and the fan is on high, but the rear occupants dont get cooling that way. When the vents are pointed towards the back it doesnt make much difference. Jeep has recognized this problem and offers rear air vents in its 2005 models.

One problem after another... - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By firstandlastjeep - December 8 - 10:00 amThe 1st wk, with 132 miles on our new Jeep, a large rattling noise turned out to be a "part that was put in backwards." At 2000 miles, the Jeep broke down with symptoms of a failed transmission. The dealer, Buerge Jeep West LA refused me a rental car until I forced the issue and got a tiny, uncomfortable compact car. Never any apologies. When I picked up the car 3 days later, I waited 45 mins for my car 100 feet away. The leather seat and floor had black marks which werent there before. When I mentioned this to the driver, he said "talk to the mgr." Buerge Jeep in West L.A. has horrible cust. svc! Never will we buy/recommend any Jeep product.

my jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By whats up - November 15 - 10:00 aminterior is too small (tight) switches are too close, such as window, door locks, etc. should be moved further forward for comfort and ease. Also, the front seats need to be adjusted somehow so the seats can be moved further back if need be. They are now very limited. If someone wants to nap in a reclined position the headrest is too hard, even being down.

5 repairs in 30k miles - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Zoobrew - July 4 - 10:00 amBeautiful exterior. Great off-road performance, but the love affair ends there. Stiff bumpy uncomfortable ride. Needed to replace entire braking system at 15,000 miles and Im no speeder. 4 major electrical problems in the first 30,000 miles. Will never buy another Jeep. They look great but cost of ownership and inconvenience are awful!!!

Left me stranded 4 times the 1st 6 month - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By KimLippy - June 2 - 2:00 amReliability on this vehicle has been a nightmare; for this I should have purchased a used car. It is now on its FORTH battery with 8198 miles on it. To date they have not been able to figure out what the problem is. I would NOT purchase this car again new. Also, the inside lacks nooks to store things up front.
